brake light switch

A while back now I bought a job lot of wooden boxes full of unknown car bits from a long closed garage. The other day I started emptying some of the boxes, and in one I have found some 50 brake light swithes as used on Jupiters (and I guess Javelins and maybe others). These are the switches which make the circuit to the brake lights when we depress the brake pedal. Should anybody need one of these simple switches -- I guess they are available elsewhere anyway -- I will be happy to let you have one.

For the sake of the story, I bought the lot because I wanted the wooden boxes, which were ex German army 1st ww ammunition boxes. The first two boxes I have recently opened were packed full of points for distributers, the next with generator brushes and the next.....with some live ammunition!

Recommend a slow careful removal from the area in which your Jowetts are stored. What are you going to do then!!!!

I would very much like one of these switches for the 'repair' of my 1930 Long Four.

It did not have brake lights when new - nor when I acquired it from a chicken run in 1966 - and although I am in the process of making as pair of 'vintage' looking stop/tail lights, I still do not have a suitable switch.

Brake light switches? Maybe save couple for David? I know he had some difficulties with brakes on the Jupiter. I will direct him towards this message toute suite.

Yes can I take you up on your offer to Sue - I would appreciate one for my jupiter. I assume they are the 'manual'type. My jupiter has been fitted with a pressure switch on the hydraulic pipe and it seems to be faulty - everyone suggests I revert to the original type!

Delighted to report that TWO switches arrived safe and well during my absence last week.

Might this be an error? I notice that you had indicated you would send two to Sue Mason so is one of these misdirected?

I would be pleased to forward if required - or do I have a 'spare'?

Well, not knowing anything at all about brake lights, but assuming that as there are two brake lights then then two switches might be required, I may have confused thing here when I asked for a couple. Maybe only one is needed afterall.
So.....
if there is only a need for one switch per pair of brake light, then I could take up the offer of the spare currently in the UK

Otherwise, Vic status quo.

A logical assumption Sue but as you can now guess there is only one switch required in a Javelin or Jupiter and I suspect any pre war. But please don't stop posting, there is a lack of ladies here and another perspective on things is usually a good thing. Blogging www.jowett.wordpress.com is also a good thing

Yes there is only one switch for both stop lights.

In my Javelin it was screwed to the underside of the floor near the brake master cylinder and connected to it by a coil spring.

If you have not received one (or two?) from Vic, I will be pleased to forward the 'spare' he apparently sent me (I assume - without looking - that your address is in the members list).

Hello Ian, Two because they are a different size, and I did not know which would suit your car best. I suggest you keep the spare unless you find somebody in need (not Sue/Mike).
