Re: Jowett's Drawing Office, divided into brilliant and not good?

Hey Phillip, stumbled upon the quad seal when ordering other stuff from McMaster and have used them on the block-to-head water transfer (52072) for close to 10 years. Doing up 2 motors this summer and thought about boring a small shoulder in the oil filter base to locate the seal, but it appears a g...

Re: Javelin Front Spring Rebound Buffer (Part 50740)

Don't have a picture, bit it's pretty simple. The buffer is triangular in cross section, about 1" per side and the same length as the width of the chassis bracket under the spring arm. It is vulcanized to a thin steel plate. There is a vertical access hole in the center. It is held in place by ...

Nice that it wasn't a tear-the-loom-out fix.

Re: Brake Light Weirdness

Yes, a certain shade of weak coffee brown seems to be the norm, possibly with just a hint of a darker stripe for the wires that carried a second color. Faded true color might be gleaned if any of the loom woven cloth still hides the wires, but often age has killed the lacquer everywhere. Given the g...

Re: Brake Light Weirdness

As long as you're tracing blue wires to where they're grafted to the original loom, might want to consider re-wiring with the correct color code. My source is britishwiring.com. IIRC, located in PA.

Re: Replacing Front Wheel Studs - Hydromechanical Brakes

Man, forget to check JT for one day and my ears start burning. Tom, not hard at all. Sent Robin a few some years ago and have some on hand. Chris is correct that a large puller will work (Harbor Freight cheapy works well)and sometime wiggling with the wheel still attached also works. Back off the ad...

Re: WANTED: glove box lock

New from Moss Motors with two keys. A bit pricey at US$190. Part number 633-740 Application BJ8 So old BJ8 as well and perhaps a Healey chat group might be in your future. Innards are the same on a Nash Metropolitan. I'm guessing your keeper is what I call the striker. I can check the Nash parts two...

Re: Jupiter restorations.

There is a modern gear reduction starter made to work with the Jowett. One must check that it engages deeply enough to avoid chewing off the extreme edge of the ring gear. Agree with Andrew the proper fix is not welding. We have frequently milled three holes using a rotary table and the hold the gea...

Re: Jupiter restorations.

Attitude makes the difference. I think we all have had stumbles in our rebuilds. I agree with KC that you should not put too much emphasis on the compression tests if the rings were not well seated. The one to put faith in is an open valve if no other cylinders have that hiss. Was that pushrod relat...

Re: Jupiter restorations.

All the above could be the problem. Sight unseen and stabbing in the dark, I vote for stuck starter motor. Lucas put a square on the end of the shaft just so one could release the bendix from the flywheel. So just like my mom would say, when was the last time you turned the motor? Going back to the ...
