Re: Rear Axles

The Jupiter has a wider track. I've never checked but I have wondered whether the axle tubes are pegged into the diff casing and whether or not they could therefore be extended to suit a Jupiter. Javelin axles do look odd when fitted to a Jupiter.

Re: Hot weather starting

I think th fuel may vapourise close to the carb due to the close proximity of the hot heads and the horizontal configuration. I found the only solution was to go for another pint and drink it slowly! Rich

Re: 1947 Bradford Restoration

I think this is a Bradford utility rather than a utility delux. Similar vehicle on an auction site 12 months or so ago complete with the same steering wheel. Possibly you could up-spec your Bradford utility as you wished. Having completed similar repairs to my Bradford window surround some years ago...

Re: Hot weather starting

Sounds like vapour lock. My Jupiter used to do it. Hopefully someone may have a solution.

Re: Rear Axles

Jack up one rear wheel. Hand brake off. Make a mark on elevated wheel rim. Make a mark on crankshaft pulley. Select fourth gear. Ask your assistant to turn engine over and count the number of revolutions it takes for the watched rear wheel to complete one revolution. The answer is the diff ratio. Th...

Re: Pre-War pick up on ebay

Possibly CA engine. Could be Bendix Cowdray brakes? Pre-war doors? Fascinating history unfolding. I'm sure it would generate huge interest at whatever show it attended. I hope it finds an enthusiastic owner.

Pre-War pick up on ebay

I have seen this truck some years ago and my father and I struggled to work out its provenance then. Current owner seems reluctant to reveal its chassis number. I can't remember our conclusions from so many years past but it looks to be a combination of possibly pre-war 8hp van, pre-war seven van do...

Re: King pins

I have no recollection of covers in use on the pre-war axle. They are used for the Bradford. The pre-war axle beam has a predisposition to wearing the king pin hole oval and so replacement of the king pin and bushes does not cure the play top to bottom at the wheels. Shims would be needed to reduce ...

Re: Standard Javelin rebuild

HI Alf
Thanks very much but Jowett Car Spares came up with the Goods. Rest has made a slow start with repairs commenced to boot floor. There will be a further health related delay now but hope to recommence in a few weeks.
Kind regards Rich

I think Mr. Mitchell was also interested in Reliant cars. Its a reliant Rebel in the background of one shot.

Re: Jowett Kestrel Rebuild & Restoration

From what I remember the rear inner wheel arch panel encloses the timber and all at the rear. The wing just acts as a mud trap to encourage rust. I have no recollection of the brackets shown on the inner bottom panel and feel they may be an addition. Rich. Ps Will have a look for window mechanisms a...

Re: Jowett Kestrel Rebuild & Restoration

Coming along nicely! Leaded in this area from new. It allowed the scuttle to be welded to roof panel over the wooden frame and then filled with lead solder as the join could not be dressed by orthodox sheet metalwork. I may have some window glass and mechanisms for this model.
