WANTED: Pre-war window lifter channel

Post by julian »

I am on the last push to get my Jowett Kestrel on the road with the intention of visiting the Ex employees reunion in August. One thing that's holding me up is sourcing the driver’s side window lifter channel, which was completely missing when I acquired the car. The driver’s side is different to the other 3 window mechanisms and operates full travel with a single turn. Photo below shows the spring loaded pegs which engage with the channel. Any parts, photos and/or guidance would be very welcome. :D

Julian - On my 1937 8HP - I have used MGB window lifting channels to good effect - readily available through many suppliers - I am assuming that one of these would do the job but I can not guarantee it would fit but your winding mechanism looks identical to that of the 8 - I have added a link below - hope that it helps - Chris

Many thanks, Crisis. That looked promising, but I called Moss in Bradford and unfortunately the channel where the brass "wheel" engages is only 15mm high. The brass "wheel" on my mechanism is 20mm. One option is to get hold of the mechanism from an MG and fit the relevant parts to the Jowett!

Julian - The alternative is that you could cut the guide channel and widen it to accept the wheel - don't know if you can weld - but if not I could do it for you - or is there enough meat on the brass wheels to turn them down in a lathe to the required 15mm diameter ?? - and has a third alternative has you suggested is obtain a window regulator from a MGB and alter / adapt the parts to make a hybrid regulator from the two - but I would think there are enough options to resolve the situation - Good luck - Chris
