Keith.

I have been looking at the pictures of the engineering drawings in your album in the gallery. The pictures I was particularly interested in are of the gearbox towards the end of your images where you say “Gearbox . . but what car?â€

the gearbox shown in the drawing in question has no tailshaft extension , having a layrub typow flang directly on the bock of the box. It also appears to have a deeper bellhousing than the CD one you show a picture of.

This raises a couple of points which perhaps somebody in NZ with the once 'abundant' supply of CD's can answer.

did the CD come with 2 lengths of prop shaft eg one for the twin & one for the 4. Both engines were forward mounted and there is not a great deal of difference in length pulley to flywheen on twin & four.

so! did the twin use a box without tail shaftextension and longer prop shaft & the 4 one with tailshaft extension & shorter front propshaft.


were early prototypes without tailshaft extension & later ones with


Is the box in the drawing a CD box or is it in fact a 1940 8/10 box on which both the jav & CD box was based. (the 1940 box had cast iron caing & separate.alloy bellhousing.


If there is a CD box in NZ with top mounted gearleaver is the shape of the 'turret' & bolts on the top of it the same as in the drawing, & is it with or without tailshaft extension.

I think we are talking at cross purposes. Leo's posting and my response are about the CD Bradford, most of the preproduction prototypes going to NZ. , some with IOE twin & some with 4 cyl engines. I presume you are talking about the CA CB &CC models.

Hello George,

First . . . confession time!

I must admit that I'm really only familiar with Jowetts' Javelin/Jupiter gearboxes, having had nothing what-so-ever to do with earlier cars . . . other than drooling admiringly at them at rallies!

So in reality, perhaps I should have said . . . . .
