Keith.
I have been looking at the pictures of the engineering drawings in your album in the gallery. The pictures I was particularly interested in are of the gearbox towards the end of your images where you say “Gearbox . . but what car?â€

the gearbox shown in the drawing in question has no tailshaft extension , having a layrub typow flang directly on the bock of the box. It also appears to have a deeper bellhousing than the CD one you show a picture of.
This raises a couple of points which perhaps somebody in NZ with the once 'abundant' supply of CD's can answer.
did the CD come with 2 lengths of prop shaft eg one for the twin & one for the 4. Both engines were forward mounted and there is not a great deal of difference in length pulley to flywheen on twin & four.
so! did the twin use a box without tail shaftextension and longer prop shaft & the 4 one with tailshaft extension & shorter front propshaft.
were early prototypes without tailshaft extension & later ones with
Is the box in the drawing a CD box or is it in fact a 1940 8/10 box on which both the jav & CD box was based. (the 1940 box had cast iron caing & separate.alloy bellhousing.
If there is a CD box in NZ with top mounted gearleaver is the shape of the 'turret' & bolts on the top of it the same as in the drawing, & is it with or without tailshaft extension.

[quote]The method of making the steering arm and link joints were dreadful on the van I had . . I don’t know what the designers were thinking! They had used Metalastic bonded rubber bushes in the joints, which meant all was reasonably okay when driving straight ahead, but more and more power was needed in the driver’s arms if you wanted to maneuver! . . . . the bushes needed to be torsionally “wound upâ€

Hello George,
First . . . confession time!
I must admit that I'm really only familiar with Jowetts' Javelin/Jupiter gearboxes, having had nothing what-so-ever to do with earlier cars . . . other than drooling admiringly at them at rallies!
So in reality, perhaps I should have said . . . . .
“These, in my opinion, look like they could be drawings of the CD Bradford gearbox (the last image, “CD revision historyâ€
