A very basic questiin! How is the rack lubricated;handbook appears to indicate a central grease nipple but one is not present on our ('51) Jupiter.
Many thanks

Re: Steering rack lubrication
I was looking at this over the weekend. Is the fill hole covered by a brass colored nut similar in appearance to the nut for the gearbox oil?
Please advise.
Please advise.

Re: Steering rack lubrication
If so, what is the proper fill level?

Re: Steering rack lubrication
Yes brass nut. I do not think level is specified. I would suggest filling to top and moving the rack each way and filling again. Obviously if it pours out the gaiters check their air bleed hole is on the side not bottom, or stop filling. The important thing is to keep the rack lubricated regularly and to flush out any grit. A thinner oil has a better flush than thick oil or grease. The wear takes place on the aluminium housing rather than on the rack. Also lubricate the pinion via the nipple.
