Worth following up?

Post by Forumadmin »

Taking refuse to the local tip involves driving past a recycle station - opposite which was a strange 2cyl. opposed engine with brass plate - Jowett CarsP/L.
I'd never heard of one but would like to know more about the engine.
I live in Australia - Far North Queensland.

Strange Jowett Engine

Post by Robin Fairservice »

I wonder if this is a WP stationary engine, so I sent a copy of the scan of an Instruction book to the writer.

I suspect that it is from a Bradford. I too have mailed the correspondent trying to get more details.

Worth looking up

Post by Robin Fairservice »

I sent the WP instruction book, and this is the response that I received:

Robin: Almost the engine described in the handbook but (and I hadn’t realized the marque existed prior to inspecting the old engine so my knowledge is limited) the intake manifold on the engine I saw is cast and has a “squareâ€

Did you ever hear any more about this rarity?

This posting is prompted by comments from Bill Ebzery at the Jowett Centenary Rally.

I also used to own a Jowett stationery engine in th UK, but I did not make ny notes about its 'chassis' number before I sold it.

Stupid boy!

Stationary engines

Post by Tony Fearn »

For interest here are photos of two stationary engines at Wakefield 2010.

This is Henry Sanderson's engine which had all manner of belted attachments, and was an excellent show which must have taken a long time to assemble on the field. Nice one Henry.

This is a photo of one of Alan Nesfield's engines, very intersting and shiny.

I have a few more photos of the stationary engine exhibits if anyone has a pile of bits in the dark recesses of the garage.

I visited this sadly remote (why was that?) part of the show at Wakefield late on Sunday, as I used to have a similar - but noticeably different - ex WD engine many years ago.

Henry said he was having magneto trouble when I visited, have you got it sorted Henry?

(PS Why is this post in the 'Australian' section?)

OK Tony - I sit corrected!

Still, is it worth thinking about some system of cross referencing posts along the lines of bookmarks in word processing?

e.g My car is similar to John Smith's (see post xxxx in the Natter Section)

Just a thought - but only just!
