Dynamo coil mountings

Post by AlanBartlett »

Right one of the holes in my dynamo has serverly stripped thread. Its too short a hole to tap a new thread into it so I've come up with an idea have yet to try it out tho but here goes.

I thought about using a giant duble clip if thats what they are called and spliting it at the locking mechanism end and lengthening the toothed strip and then riviting or bolting it to the the 2 holes on the coil mounting base, then connecting the two ends like a normal duble clip around the whole dynamo and doing up the screw fixing tight

Does anyone reckon that would be a good idea? or even using the remaining good hole and bolt and putting the joing rivit through that bolt to give it a little more support.

When you say too short, is it a blind hole which cannot take a tap. usually you can either tap to a larger size or fit a Helicoil.

I mean the metal too thin as in there is not enough thread to tap in a new or bigger sized, because its on the dynamo, and at the bottom is a small plate covering the hole to protect the inside strands of wire.
