marcel - as the guage is not original it can legitimately be replaced by a similer one . There are a veriety of similer ones on ebay for around £20 new mostly with electical connection. However there is osmebody in Greece selling 4 new boxed capiliary (i.e tube between gauge and sender unit) temperature gauges .

When testing yours you need to establish its accuracy as although the needle is moving it may not be entirely accurate. The way I used to do it was to remove gauge and sender unit complete and put the sender unit a pan of cold water with a thermometer in it and heat it on the kitchen stove. Start with a pan of cold water and both the cars gauge and the thermometer in the pan should go up the scale more or less at the same rate.

Marcel:-

You say ' The gauge is work, but the hand work aprupt'.

I assume this means the hand (we generally call them needles) does not move smoothly, which I think means that the gears inside are either rusted or dirty.

Does anyone else think it might be worth trying to spray some lubricant inside the guage unit?

I do not think this could do any damage and it just MIGHT work?
The devil is in the detail!

Hello,
Tony thank you for explaining!
In any case I will take care, if I remove the gauge!

At this time I prepare all little car parts, spare and wear parts, screws, I need new.

What du you mean, if i come to your Jowett Rally in may 2013?
Is there also a car spare market?

Regards Marcel.

The clock-face is handmade, probably the gauge was never really accurately. the gauge is very old and nice, if it not needs must, I want retain the gauge.
Perhaps the needle in the gauge will be ok, if it will move several times.

Georg, I have tested it with a electric temperatur-probe, but if the gauge in the car goes aprupt, i can´t test the Temperatur Display

Ian, you are right, the needles does not move smoothly.

Marcel,
Ian has mentioned the mechanical movement in the gauge, and that it may be rusty or dirty.

Have a look at this Google site. Some of the photographs show the workings of mechanical temperature gauges:-

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=bourdo ... 66&bih=648

When I mentioned the National Rally in Basingstoke 2013, some time ago, I think I said that if you contacted, or faxed Jowett Car Spares (number in the Jowetteer magazine) with a list of what spares you need, if they are available, they could be brought to that meeting to save postage costs. Alternatively, JCS does post abroad when necessary.

What would be appreciated is a photo of you by your car so that we can see who we are 'talking to'.

Hello again Marcel, and it is good to see you back on JowettTalk.

If you click on JowettGallery and then login at the top right hand side, you will be able to see in the 'Album actions' on the left hand side - 'view latest additions'

There are a few photos of the Rally.

The Rally was very good, and the organisation was well done. It was enjoyable, and we met many old friends and made a few new ones. The weather also was fine.

Regarding your problem about things being "always different than you planned", you are not alone. Most of us have the same problem. In fact a poet (Robbie Burns) in Scotland, in 1785 used very similar words in one of his poems :-

'The best laid schemes of mice and men often go wrong'

Tony.

Looking at page one of this thread and the link to Richard Edmonds site this car has a conventional 1930's opening windsceen . The frame is probably chromed brass made up in two sections joined by flat head screws, as described, under the rubber seal . If a new glass is needed it will have to be laminated and should be made up by an auto glass specialist . Toughened is not feasible and plain glass is illegal and lethal. There must be companies in Germany who will make one to fit or perhaps there is a spare somewhere ? Bob
