1936 Jowett in Germany restore

Hello again Peter; and to Marcel, welcome to 1930s Jowett motoring.

Perhaps Peter, as Marcel seems to have such a good command of English, as you have yourself, your replies might interest most of us if they were in our language.

I've tried translating them from German into English using the free translation guide 'Babelfish' over the internet, but it's not very good.

Marcel:- When you have joined the Club, you might wish to write to John and Danuta (address inside the front cover of the magazine) who look after the Jowett shop on behalf of the members. They have handbooks and other things which might relate to your car, which contain much useful information.

The search facility on JowettTalk is quite amazing, and if you search for information (in English) on the Prewar section, you will find many things of interest.

I was 16 years old when I bought my first Jowett which I call 'Mary Ellen', and I still have it, and now I'm 68 years old! I hope you enjoy your car as much as I do.

You are right, the German words belongs not in this Forum. we write about the organisation of the club and the join of the Jowett club.
Nice to hear, that you keep remain the car so a long time.
I find a lot of subscription, but not for my car.
i´m looking forward to become my first Jowetter inthis i find perhaps a few pictures about my model

I believe there was a Falcon at the rally in June, only a few weeks ago. I didn't have a camera, but many others did - perhaps there is someone who can upload a photo or two? Also when you have joined the club you will receive a membership list, from which you can get in touch with other Falcon owners in the club.

Hi Marcel, I only wish my German was as good as your English!

I will try to find more pictures of the 1936 Jowett. The Falcon was very similar to the 1935 'standard' saloon, the main differences as follows:-

Redesigned wings (fenders?) and front shroud (panel under radiator) incorporating a beaded moulding pressed into the edges, not only a design feature but to reinforce the panels.

Radiator grill is now slatted (in strips) instead of 'honeycomb' style and slopes back a little more than in 1935.

You may have noticed from the 'flyer' that a sunroof was available at extra cost, therefore it is possible your car never had one and the aluminium panel is original, unless there is evidence of a sunroof in the interior of the car.

If you wanted to keep your car in original Jowett colours, eg black, green or blue, there will be someone in the club who can advise you of the nearest shades. However, the wings were nearly always black on the saloons.

The 1936 Falcon had either 'rexine' (a type of leathercloth) or 'rep' (a type of cloth - would someone be able to tell us what?) upholstery.

Further to my last post, to satisfy my own curiosity, I googled 'rep cloth' and in our case it is a wool cloth woven in fine ribs, a bit like Bedford Cord I would imagine! I have seen several Jowetts with original mocquette upholstery but have yet to see one with original rep - perhaps it didn't last as long.

I took one photograph of each car that attended the static rally on the Saturday, and the Falcon is below, although it is a 1935 model - see Ken's post about the changes.

Hi Marcel, I thought you might be interested in the attached image. It shows the Jowett stand at the 1934 Earls Court Motor Show in London where the models for 1935 were on display. These were similar to those available in 1936 and shows the different body styles, as follows:-

(clockwise going around the stand columns starting with the model in the foreground)

Weasel, Kestrel/Curlew, Kestrel/Curlew, Falcon and Flying-Fox.

You will see that the main difference in the body style of the saloons is the fashion by which the spare wheel is stored.
