Sounds like the Master Cylinder, the unit attached to the foot brake pedal,

These can be repaired - with new seals and oddments - but the safest bet is a reconditioned unit, or of course a new one if you can find one.

They are not difficult to fit but of course you must bleed the whole system when the unit has been fitted - probably a good idea anyway as the fluid may be years old!

Try JCS for a start.
The devil is in the detail!

See my email.
1. Does the fluid level in the reservoir go down?
2. No, then, if they have been bled properly, it is the master cylinder.
3. If you pump rapidly are there bubbles in the reservoir?
4. If you press slowly, is there any resistance?

If you have a Hydro Mechanical system, have you had the front brakes apart? If so, how did you position the springs? If you did what I did and hooked the top spring from one shoe to the other then that may be your problem. The top spring must be hooked from one shoe to a peg on the back plate.

I do not have spares of that master cylinder. I think the seals are different to full hydro.
