Ice Cream vans on Bradford Chassis

Post by PAUL BEAUMONT »

I am in touch with a guy who is writing a book on van conversions for Ice cream vans. He is seeking pictures. Can anyone help. We know of the one in a museum in Hull, but otherwise nothing. I believe that there was one near David Fox, in Glos. But since his demise I have heard nothing about it.

Hi Paul,
I think there is one in the Bradford Ind. Museum.
I seem to remember seeing a news article many years ago about one which had been donated to them....but I may be wrong !

Bradford ice cream van

Post by Tony Fearn »

Hi Paul.

I remembered that I'd taken a photo of Jim Munro's van at the 1983 NJW at Saltaire. I've copied it below. Is it any use to your contact or has he one of this vehicle already?

Tony.

Whatever the performance, it's a really 'cool' means of transport and it's not going to cost a load of lolly to run !

Hello again Paul.

Perhaps it may be of interest if you uploaded George's emailed pictures on to this post.

Just love Keith's, Ted's and George's witticisms.

Tony.

Thanks to everyone for their help, but keep at it! I still would like to know if anyone knows anything about the one that was in Dursley fairly recently.
I am grateful once again to you Tony. I felt sure that JM had one and I thought I had seen it and guessed that this was at Saltaire, but I have trawled my photos and cannot find it, so I am grateful. I suspect that this one may be with Derek Cox in Bristol.
I do appreciate the comedy too. Just a thought, as Ice cream vans are popular at seaside locations maybe they have all got blown off shore - hence the scarcity of info.
At some point I will create a gallery file of all that I find.

The market leader ice cream company in New Zealand has a standard Bradford van ( not a high top) painted out in their company livery. Had been planning on visiting them to do a story for the NZ magazine. Will try and accelerste this project.

Interesting!!! I don't suppose anyone has a picture of it - an international aspect would, I am sure, be interesting to my correspondent.

Pictures of Ice Cream Vans

Post by Alastair Gregg »

Hello All

You may be right when you see the picture linked below in thinking I have lost what few marbles I had. However if you read the text you will see I have linked to an ice cream van not just dry "ice"
