After the Scottish "do" when my Javelin performed faultlessly, I suffered an overheating rear n/s brake in June. The hand brake was suspect as it was tending to jam on. This was at first re-adjusted, but to no avail, hub / drum still got very hot. As thread on drum was shot, and I could not use puller, I obtained a pair of replacement drums froom JC Spares. New shoes were fitted, plus a new hydraulic cylinder as thread on pipe inlet was also damaged. H/b operating mechanism also cleaned and lubricated.
N/s hub still gets very hot after even a short 5 mile run. Everything double checked, all as per manual. Brakes operate and come off fine. There is no heat from the half shaft bearing area, it is the drum and back plate.
I am going to get the drum skimmed in case there is any uneveness, but the linings do not show any undue wear in one area. Also even when drum hot, wheel rotates perfectly, no drag, and no crunching soulds from the bearing either.
Anybody got any thoughts?

Steve, I am in no way an expert but I wonder if the problem could be in the bearing? If the bearing is failing it might be pushing the shoes against the drums under certain conditions, eg cornering. A thought, anyway, although I would have thought you would have detected excess movement anyway. Rgds vic

brake
No bearing was not getting hot. I swapped brake drums left to right and problem solved!
Must have been new brake shoesa tad too big, and replacement drum too tight for them.
