A STORY: "The Jupiter and the Roller"

Why not tell us about your car (start with a picture) and say what you have done with it; either restoring or using it over the years. Restoration of particular parts is of special interest. Club members can have their space on in their Personal Album to do this.

A STORY: "The Jupiter and the Roller"

Post by Leo Bolter »

Now let me dispel any worries . . . this is NOT a tale of woe where the poor little Jupiter is dreadfully mutilated by being run over by a steam roller! No, it's a far nicer story which tells of me being subjected to the temptation of swapping my Jupiter for a Rolls Royce! . . . and succumbing too!

Let me expand on that . . . yesterday I was offered the opportunity of driving the Rolls in exchange for it's owner having a drive of my Jupiter . . . so the exchange was in reality, just for 1/2 an hour or so . . . I can hear the collective sigh of relief from all you Jowetters out there (or maybe it was from the Roller owners . . . or possibly both!).

What a seductive beast . . so smooth, so quiet and that pesky clock ticking seems so very loud!.

The steering was light and easy in spite of the car weighing slightly more than 2 tonnes . . . and while driving around "the bays" and the centre of Wellington's "downtown" area on a Sunday afternoon didn't give much of a chance to "floor it" (well, NO chance really!) one could just sense the power that would have been available from that 6 litre V8 power unit.

What a THRILL of a lifetime !! I'm still grinning as I write this and the memories come flooding back to me.

Still, the Jupiter is the car for me . . .

Cheers.
