Jupiter Back Axle Oil Seals
I wonder if somebody can help me. When I stripped the rear brakes off the Jupiter (SC990) which I am rebuilding, they were full of diff oil. I decided to pull the halfshafts and replace all the oil and grease seals. I have bought new seals from JCS and the pinion and outer (grease) seals are fine, but the inner oil seals on the halfsahfts are too small in diameter, though they look good and are leather faced as the origionals.
The old seals are marked 227110 and outer diameter is 57.85/57.90 mm.
The new seals are marked 22512550 and outer diameter is 57.25mm.
Does anybody have a couple of seals of the right diameter, or know where I might find them?
Is this a difference between Javelin and Jupiter axles by any chance?

Jupiter Back Axle Oil Seals
Hi Vic,
Paul Beaumont mentions some of these seals being sold on eBay. I did bid for them but was not successful.
However, I saved the advert, in case it came in useful and I have listed the information given in the eBay advert, which might give you some clues as to where to look for some more. The advert said :-
Two rare New Old Stock Payen C577 (Salisbury axle) Rear Axle Oil Seals. The original boxes on these are a bit tatty, but the oil seals are still in their factory sealed bags so in mint condition. These are listed as fitting the following vehicles:
Armstrong Siddeley 234, 236 (1955-1957) Rear Axle Shaft. (Salisbury 3HA axle)
Jaguar 1.5 Litre (1940-1949) Rear Axle Shaft.
Jowett Javelin PC, PF (1951-1954) Rear Axle Shaft.
Jowett Jupiter SA, SC (1951-1954) Rear Axle Shaft.
Daimler 2.5 Conquest, Century (1953-1958) Rear Axle Shaft.
Lanchester Leda, LJ200, LJ201 (1951-1954) Rear Axle Shaft.
Singer SM1500, SM Roadster, Hunter (1949-1956) Rear Axle Shaft. (No2 Type Axle).
Morgan Plus 4 (1951-on).
I thought that the mention of a PF version of the Javelin was interesting, as the seller was in Cyprus!
Looking at the list of the other users of these seals above, you might strike lucky with the various spares officers in the car clubs but personally, I would approach Morgans themselves in Malvern, as I believe they keep a very extensive range of spares for all Morgans, going back many years.
I hope this helps and do let me know how you get on, as I may well need these seals myself in the future!

Thanks David. The ebay seals were offered by Ian, as Paul suspected, and were sold. The list of other cars using that axle is great, because it might be a lead into a source for different ratios, I will dig in and find out. In the mean time I have found some seals with the club in New Zealand, with a back up from Scott Renner in the USA. Scott's seals are a modern equivalent, rubber cased, so I am optimistic that one or the other will work. I did contact Salisbury themselves, and got an answer to say they would look into it, but no result since.
All best Vic

Hi there,
The eBay advertisment I referred to was indeed the one from Cyprus. They have already been sold, but I thought the list of other fitting applications would give Vic some 'leads'.
All the best,
David
