Today I noticed on eBay, a box clearly marked 'JOWETT' containing THIRTEEN piston rings, 2 31/32" x 2mm. (Presumably 'Standard' bore).
If they were all in the same box originally, surely there must have been a multiple of two or four sets. Four seems likely as two sets would not need so big a box.
This would mean an original set for FOUR pistons each with FOUR rings?
My 1933 Spares List shows only TWO rings per piston, one compression and one scraper.
At 2 31/32", aren't these for the pre-war two cylinder engines, or what size were the pre-war 'fours'?
This all seems a bit odd. Bear in mind they all are in the same box - so, explanations please?
