I can't wait for this one! I remember very fondly the Doune Rally of 1978, my very first JAW at the age of 16 and the start of a long love affair with the 7s - one of the highlights was the bagpipe competition.

At our last Rally Committee meeting before the Clubs National AGM we finalised our planning for our first main fundraising event to support Rally 2008. This will take the form of a RACE NIGHT on Friday 3rd November 2006 at Shotts Bon Accord Social Club. First Race at 8.00 PM.

Initial planning for Rally 2008 ( No formal Name yet - How about a suggestion from you at the Clubs AGM ) is progressing well. It will be up to the membership to guarantee the success of the event.

JOWETT RALLY IN SCOTLAND 2008

Post by Drummond Black »

The full package for the 2008 JOWETT RALLY in Scotland was revealed to the 2006 Annual General Meeting of the Jowett Car Club which was held in the Coventry Motor Museum on Saturday 14th October 2006.

Drummond Black outlined in detail the Location, outline programme, details of the base hotel and rally field day site and the package cost for the proposed event.

Our location for our 2008 event will be The holiday town of CRIEFF
about 30 miles north of Stirling. Crieff is located just inside the Highland fault and offers the advantage of spectacular scenery and easy access from both the south and the north alike.

We have based our event at the famous CRIEFF HYDRO HOTEL which is located on the north side of the town.

We have chosen to hold our field day in MARKET PARK which is the site of the spectacular Crieff Highland Games. The games have been held at this location annually for over the last hundred years. It is within the town boundary and only five minutes from the town centre.

The meeting received details of the programme of events for the weekend with some additional ideas added. They included a proposed visit to the now famous FALKIRK WHEEL ( The only rotating canal boat lift in the World ) and a possible visit to the Scottish Railway Preservation Society site at BO'Ness in West Lothian which apart from Steam Trips also has a fantastic railway museum.. A visit to Stirling Castle could also be on the cards.

The three day package cost for TWO in a High Standard Double or Twin Room which covers ALL costs from Friday PM thru to Monday AM is set at 435-00 pounds. A single room for the same period is set at 220-00 pounds..

PRIORITY BOOKING FORMS to register interest for RALLY 2008 were available and were very quickly snapped up, with over thirty being completed and returned at the meeting.

If you were not at the AGM and would like details of RALLY 2008 then please use the contact details as follows....

The Rogers family have booked one of the hotel's superb chalets in the grounds to make a holiday of it - an idea worth considering if you have so far to travel. Mandy and the children haven't been to Scotland so we are very much looking forward to it!

Val and I won't be there with you, but could someone PLEASE call in as you go to the venue, to the Falkirk Wheel and soak up this incredible, magnificent, ingenious and awe inspiring piece of engineering, on my behalf . . . . just on your way past will be fine!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkirk_Wheel

(You know of course, if you multi click on the pictures in this site you can zoom right in to see the detail )

I’ve just been taking a virtual tour of the area of Crieff and tried to find the hotel on Google Earth . . . not good resolution in that area I’m afraid.
