Any experts out there who know whether the barrels should have a gasket at their base where they join the engine block ? I seem to possibly have an oil leak at the base of my nearside barrel.

They had a very thin paper gasket nothing more.
A silicon sealer would probably do the trick

Thanks for the response Jeremy. Starting to look to be an 'engine out' job which is beyond my capabilities age and healthwise. Thanks anyway.

Try to tighten the bolts, Bradford cylinder barrels were known to come lose.
Good memories of Bradfords.
