Good to see a few Jowett Members at the weekend and a Jupiter.
Benjamin was a great hit with the public and the celebreties that rode in him. Murray Walker was reminded of the time he broke the gear lever at Silverstone 100 years of Motoring. Russell Brookes commented on the lively ride. Frank Sytner on his memories of his time in the Javelin. Rauno Aaltenen also passed good comment.
Spent an hour on Thursday night helping Barrie Williams sort his A30 which had a wiring problem, Rowan Atkinson was asked if he had some wire in the boot of his Roller. No chance! Interesting conicidence I had walked passed his house two days previously.
??? from Perth WA had shipped two 2 litre Jowett cases to WA and these were installed in racing boats. He is chair of MG section and knows Tony George.
??? from Sydney knew a Jav in Melbourne and was surprised when I said I not only knew of it but had stayed with the owner (whom he knew) and I had driven it to Armidale NSW.
But most interesting was a chance meeting at Lavant Corner, with Iain Harris. He had a Jupiter and was approached by George Green to purchase the new Jupiter Model, the R4. He won a couple of races with it before being called up. When he returned the R4 was no longer competitive and so sold it to probably Alf Thomas, Bill Body may have been involved??. He was beaten down from £600 to £400 in installments. Perhaps more accurate info from Iain when he writes in JowettTalk.
I will also contact him to verify my sketchy memories of our conversation!
