SOUTHERN SECTION Given the recent sun and showers you could think it is April, but
the longer, warmer days means many of us have been out and about in our Jowetts. Well
done if attending local shows - great to see Garth and Jessica Wright pick up a trophy at
the South Oxfordshire Steam Rally. It appears the Jowett former employee reunion was
another success, even if a bit wet. Due to submission deadlines I sit here hoping for good
weather on 26th August - the Titsey100 and Goodwood Revival (Sept 8-10th) reports will
be in the October Jowetteer.
The Southern Section AGM (Jul 22nd) was kindly hosted by Andy and Julie Blow who
also provided a wonderful lunch spread - thank you. Your committee for this coming year
is Bruce Girvan, Andy Blow, Mark Chessell, Rebecca Mant, Ian Roxburgh, Chris Spencer,
Andy Stevens. We welcome Mark to the committee and look forward to his seeing his
Javelin Goldie back running on the road in due course. All in all our Section year has been
a success with national and local events, as well as sporting ones (Goodwood, Classic Le
Mans and VSCC). The Section President's Plate was awarded to Chris Spencer for his
commitment at Club and Section level - Chris noted that he is but one cog in the machine,
but 2023 has so far been a great success.
The committee has come up with a list of future events, which will need some planning,
including a trip to the Isle of Wight. I note that most involve a brewery of some form,
though the trip to Shoreham Airport (nee Brighton City Airport) offered by Peter Teager is
one we will look to hold soon. I suspect Javelins and Jupiters in front of the iconic airport
building would make a lovely photo. Watch this space!
One important point for you to note is that, understandably, Ian Roxburgh will be offloading
the Section spares, which he has held and managed for many years and which has
been the main source of income for our Section. This extraordinary collection is heading
to the JCS, so if you need or suspect you need a spare or lots of spares, then I urge you
to contact Ian. Think of filling your Christmas stocking with Javelin spares early, because
once those spares have headed 'home' to Yorkshire.... If you think you have space to
take the spares on then please contact me ASAP.
As we think about winding down this year (already!) I will start to work on the 2024 calendar.
As ever if you want to meet up then feel free to suggest a place and date - it is not
obligatory to drive your Jowett there as it is the meeting people and sharing stories and
thoughts that is important.

OCT 1st - Sussex Tour, a relaxing 78 mile circular route following the River Rother east and west from The
Royal Oak, Midhurst. Jowetts welcome, though a VSCC event so please contact me first.
Date TBC - Autumn meet up (suggestions welcome)
NOV 5th - London to Brighton Veteran Car Run - Meet outside the Miller & Carter pub, London Rd,
Patcham, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 8YQ. The main cohort of cars will head past from 10am, be
there earlier for the quick ones!
NOV 11th - Inter Register Nightjar Rally - Details TBA.
