Amy's SC did not get to Goodwood this year because its starter motor failed the day before. The starter motor required a modification to make it miss the chassis as the block used in the engine had been wrongly machined. All good now after I changed the failed brush.
A hook was used to retrieve the springs which were released to allow removal of brush. The commutator was also turned down to get flat in the lathe.
The brushes need to retracted to refit commutator. The new brush had to be filed down slightly to make it fit. The soldering required a powerful soldering iron. The spring needs to be positioned between the wires to push the brush against the commutator.
Luckily the failure occured in the garage and not on the trip to Le Mans. The starter was a spare not the one on Amy's engine that was replaced by this Le Mans spare engine.
