I have a few heads and cylinder blocks with cracks so a visit to a couple of local engine shops started a quest to find a repair process and shop to do it. The engineers at Apsley Transmissions and Classic Autos gave some useful input and warned me off a couple of local machine shops that I had used in the past (30 years ago) but have now new owners.
First some research.

Heads often go between the thin isthmus between the valves. Last year a valve seat fell out and was probably caused by such a crack. Since this head has had a lot of work done to it, saving it may be cost justifyable.
Now off to find someone who can do it and at what cost.
Cracked heads and blocks.
