Multiple Postings

Post by Nick Webster »

There is a spate of multiple postings going on. Indeed I have done it myself. It seems that JowettTalk has become very slow to upload posts, leading to a doubt that the "submit" button has been properly pressed. Hence a second press to make sure and bingo a duplicate post is created. I have no idea why the board seems to have slowed down but the key to success seems to be spotting that the button has changed colour and waiting.

Nick.

There has been some sĺowing down of response and more frequent occurence of slowing down.
I have yet to investigate why this is, but I have noticed similar slowing on other sites. Aĺthough I have full fibre broadband and should be able to discount my Internet access speed, I still get slowdown. The server is housed on a Google cloud server so should not suffer from shared service slow down too much. However, there now are a lot of power hungry services running on the jowett server. Spam filtering, search, video delivery are very demanding. I might try to reduce priority on these.
You need to be patient sometimes up to 20 secs for a post to be acknowledged.
I will ask the club exec how much we are prepared to spend on improving service.

I have added some performance checks to alert me of overload on the Google Cloud Instance to see what may be causing the slow down.
VM disk utilization too high
VM memory utilization too high
VM p95 networking latency too high
disk space alert 130gb

I will add other alert profiles and monitors to track down any issues.
