Jupiter tacho cable

Post by PaulRM »

Can someone please advise on the correct tacho cable for a Jupiter. For our restoration we have already purchased the right-angle gearbox drive adapter for the dynamo end. I have also been given what I suspect is the the wrong tacho cable. One end goes into the rev counter and is the same as a speedo cable. However surely the other end should be much larger, to fit the large female drive in the right-angle drive adaptor?

So, our current cable has a small square flexible shaft on both ends, and I'm assuming this is incorrect. If it is correct them we are missing a crucial part from the dynamo adapter itself. Attached is picture of said adapter. The end visible in the image screws into the end of the dynamo. The other end is the female receptor (where the yellow tape is), and requires an identical male drive which presumably should be on the tacho cable.

Any advice on the correct cable appreciated.

The cable should have a large tubular nut fitted to a stepped collar with a hole for a cotter (split) pin. This is the fitting needed to mate the cable to the tach gearbox. The recess near the bottom in the picture is where the cotter pin traps the fitting in the collar.
