Jupiter Tachometer

Post by PaulRM »

Is there anyone who has spare second hand revcounter? The one I'm restoring needs a replacement part - the female drive that receives the drive cable is damaged. The square 'receiving' drive is no longer square but round - the drive shaft itself is seized. It's possible that the part I require matches the one on the speedo. The rest of my unit is serviceable.

Can you post an image of the component and I will look through my stock to see if something will fit?
Have you looked on the Internet to see if there are any suppliers or firms that refurbish them.
The Jup gauge is not common, but maybe the component is.

The internals are common parts and the drive mechanism is the same for the speedo as well; the gear ratios were changed to match a manufacturer's requirement. Things might have changed from the 50s production to much later units, but seems a bit unlikely to me. A quick message to a rebuilder would confirm the commonality.

Info dump: Face plates are same shape as TR3 (no clock) and Morgan (with clock). Needles are MGTD, as is the external case and the clock. Generally, any 1" Smith clock would work, but the face plates vary as do the attachment holes.

Thanks for your replies, both.

I do watchmaking so I am restoring the instruments myself. Below is a picture of the bit of the tacho drive I need. Basically the square section is very damaged - because the shaft seized, damaging the cable and also the dynamo take-off. The rest of the tacho is intact.
