NEWS: 2022 JCCA International Rally

A friend and I recently travelled Beechworth and district to finalise planning for our 2022 International Rally.
We confirmed many of the venues for the rally, most are very keen considering what they have been through. First the bushfires (remember them) and then covid.

We checked the observation run that you will enjoy on Sunday 24th April 2022. The observation run consists of a lovely 57mile (92 Km) meander through the lovely surrounds of Beechworth. Along the way you will answer a few questions and be treated to a lovely lunch followed by an optional wine tasting back at the Armour Inn motel.

Along the route you will visit the Woolshed falls. The Woolshed goldfields were once the centre of one of the richest goldfields in Australia. It is believed that up to 8,000 prospectors looking for their fortune camped along the Spring Creek. Fortunately, it is not nearly as crowded now.

The Woolshed Valley was the location where Joe Byrne killed Aaron Sherritt, who he suspected of spying for the police. Both Aaron and Joe grew up in the Woolshed area to become Bushrangers. The killing was the beginning of the events that ultimately led to Ned Kelly’s last stand in Glenrowan.

Ned Kelly and his band of bushrangers were controversial folk heroes representing the last of the wild Victorian bushlands. Some see him has as a sort of Australian Robin Hood or Che Guevara whilst others see him as just a criminal and a cop killer.
You can make up your own mind when we re-enact his committal trial in the very courthouse in Beechworth from where he was sent to Melbourne for his trial.
We thoroughly enjoyed our few days in Victoria’s Alpine region.

You too could experience all there is to offer in the Beechworth region during the rally, and not only practice place names such as Yackandandah, Kergunyah, Mudgegonga, Barnawartha, Bobinawarrah, Tarrawingee, Murmungee, and Wooragee so that they roll off your tongue like a local, but also tour roads very suited to all Jowett vehicles through spectacular scenery.
We would recommend you plan to extend your stay. There are many so many attractions in the area we cannot possibly visit them all during the few days of the rally.

Did we mention that Yackandandah is a lovely village with a centre classified by the national trust. As you wander along the stunning streets of Yack you will discover unique artworks, crafts, music and antiques in the eclectic mix of galleries, shops and studios.
Please join us in Beechworth for the Anzac Day weekend 2022 starting on Friday 22nd April 2022 and ending with a magnificent presentation on Monday 25th April 2022.
Six rooms in the Armour Motor Inn have already been taken by eager Jowett club members from Australia New Zealand and the UK. Secure yours by calling Fiona on +61 3 5728 1421.
If you intend to stay in a caravan park then call Jackie or Sue at the Lake Sambell Caravan Park +61 3 5728 1421.
You will find a registration form at the end of the magazine please fill it in and return it to us as soon as possible to secure your place at the 2022 JCCA International Rally.
