I have been considering for a while how to store the burgeoning amount of images and videos that are accumulating on social media about Jowetts.
There are about 15000 images already on JowettTalk and some 130 videos in the Archive and some 20 year old ones in the original Media LIbrary on jowett.net
Since there is a strong likelihood that media in these diverse places will be lost or difficult to find, some decisions on how to handle the situation are probably needed if some of the gems are not to be lost.
Not everyone has access to Facebook so although it is popular with some it is not a good place for everyone. Perhaps Google or youtube might be better as searching for what you want is easier? There is an issue of do we want the items to be public or only accessible to club members or should we charge so we recoup some of the cost of storage?
Anyhow for now I have posted this onto Facebook so let me know if you would like it stored somewhere else!

But here it is on youtube

The quality is much better on YouTube so Facebook is not the preferred option. The original quality in this case is HD but after some searching not yet found out how to upload in this quality on YouTube! Of course the original mt2s quality 1920x1080 at 25 frames/s and bit rate 16Mb/s takes 6 times more space than the mp4 HD compressed version 1280x720 at 25 frames/s and bit rate of 2.9Mbits/s. The original footage was edited down to mp4 quality before being uploaded. This is then further compressed when downloading for Youtube display depending on the choice of the viewer and his network and device. So how should we archive these videos? I now have 4K display and edit capability unlike most other users but do not yet have a 4k camera. The point I am making is that video quality improves in quality every five years with the VHS quality of the 80s being replaced by DVD then Blue Ray and now on-line streaming of 4k and even 8K content. We should always archive at the best quality possible at the time even if we cannot present it at that quality to the user.
The danger is that the storage provider will change their T&Cs as has happened with most providers in the past. Hence my decision previously to upload to Jowett.net in some form or another where I and the Jowett Clubs have control over the quality, access and preservation.
