On trying to adjust the rich mixture on 1 and 3 cylinders I took of the float chamber to check float level and found it full of crud, checked the other carb, fuel filter and pump all showed signs of crud. Now I cleaned them out 6 weeks ago and the car has not done a lot since due to an over heating problem that is now fixed. So it looks like the tank needs cleaning out and sealing before I deal with the rich mixture on 1 and 3.
I've drained the tank and removed the petrol gauge sender to have a look inside and it does look rusty so I did need to clean and seal.
My question -- Is there a danger of blocking the pickup pipe with sealant, as I can not see a way to remove the pickup, advice very welcome
Dave

Re: Petrol Tank needs cleaning out
Dave - I have successfully cleaned out several Javelin fuel tanks then added the sealer without issue of blocking the pickup pipe - I take it that you are planning on using one the fuel tank sealant kits that Frost or similar suppliers stock - if you have quite a bit of rust in the tank a good few handfuls of a small but sharp gravel then a good shake about works very well - the tank obviously needs a good flush through afterwards - Chris

Re: Petrol Tank needs cleaning out
Hi Chris
I sealed the tank on my TR some years back but the pickup was easy to keep clear, the javelin looked like it could have been a problem so thanks for the feed back. I think the years standing with fuel in the tank has coursed the problem.
