Gear Change

The car has alway had difficulty changing gear so l've followed the manual and reset the change rods. Reverse is nice and easy now but the other gears although a big improvement needs a little effort to select. I did read that two finger selection was correct but my gears are too stiff for this. It does feel like the selection bars are catching, should I reset the grub screw.?
Suggestions welcome , hoping this is the last of the problems

Sorry the grub screw is correctly called the plunger pivot lock, and adjusts the spring pressure on the plungers.

I guess it is possible that the two plungers are in too tight, but they should only help to hold the selector shafts in place.
Take the assembly off carefully and see if it improves selection, as then there will be no pressure. I have seen broken pins and missing springs in this assembly on some boxes.
If it is stiff to move in all gears it is more likely an issue either in the change column or the selector slider assembly.

Have a really good look at the diagrams to see how it works.
See if the mechanism works easily with the selector rods disconnected .

Some boxes and columns are very difficult to get right due to wear in many of the dozens of components.

Hi Keith
Disconnected the Gearchange column from the gearbox, seems OK stiffness is in the box. Checked and cleaned the plungers and springs very little difference but the change is usable. Will check spare gearbox for condition of selector bars and if I find a good pair will risk changing them to see if worn selectors is the problem.
