Distributor caps

Post by jowettgeoff »

Having been unable to find a decent quality dizzy cap (I tried ones from Holden and ESM Morris Minors in E Sussex, both of which were poorly made (in Taiwan?)), I took forumadmin's advice and spoke to the chap at Distributor Doctor. I won't bore with the details, but we sank into a slightly acrimonious exchange of emails regarding the position of the low tension (LT) cut-out, relative to the position of the plug-lead outlets. All three of my cars have the cut-out on the left hand side (as viewed towards the plug lead outlets). And consequently, this is what I requested. But the 'Doctor' said this was wrong, and that the LT cutout should be at the back.
All my spare (worn out) caps have the cut-out to the left, as with the three cars. So consequently, I have ordered what I wanted rather than 'what the doctor prescribed'.

It's a bit difficult to determine, but the picture on page 19 of the maintenance manual does rather suggest a rear LT entry. All of this is a bit academic of course, but Jowetteer visitors to their next autojumble (wherever - whenever) might like to bear in mind that there are 3 versions (ie Left, Right, Rear). Only one of these will be correct for your particular car, and your particular car might not be the same as the one that Jowett intended.
