A 1935 Jowett

Post by Mike Allfrey »

I am reviewing my old Motor Sport magazines, a slow job due to much reading of interesting items. In the September 1969 issue there is an article titled Fun With A Dyane. One photo shows said Dyane parked alongside a 1935 Jowett, with the following caption:

'Flat twins both - The 602 cc Citroen Dyane 6 keeps a 1935 Jowett company, they each have horizontally opposed two-cylinder engines and soft tops, but the Jowett needs water to keep it cool.'

The licence plate on the Jowett shows VY-6466. I will scan the photo and send it to Noel Stokoe.

Does it still exist?

All the best in self isolation,

Mike A.

Is the entry in the vehicle register on Member Services incorrect as it lists a reg as VY8466?

The entry VY 8466 is incorrect - VY 6466 does exist and is registered with the UK's DVLA - has a 1935 Jowett in black - its also taxed to July 2020 which virtually confirms that the vehicle is in a current road worthy condition

VY-6466 was listed in the 1998 JCC membership list and register, but the owner's name was not listed in the membership list. I have not looked further yet. Nice to note a survivor still on the DVLA.
