Alan, there are several trade names for both of the products that you mention
The gasket material may be called Hallite, althought a similar materials is available with different names. You can get it from industrial boiler/heating engineers.
the sealing past that you are thinking of is probably Hermetite, although again several materials exist with different names and your local motor shop may stock a sort of "own Brand" product. Read the label to make sure that the one you pick does the job that you want it to do. Some do not like petrol, some do not like oil etc so be careful.

There are also diff thickness'
Tend to go to a little thicker for inlet manifold and bottom of the carb.
Smear a thinn coating of oil on the gaskets before installing.
Modern gasket materials dont tend to need sealers
Another method I have used both on the bradford and Camaro, is the orange locktite gasket maker.
A reasonable amount on both surfaces, bolt up but not finally torqued, then a few hrs later final torque the last 1/2 turn.
Often these surfaces are corroded...clean well then carefull 'mill'... relevel with a flat file, then on a large sheet of glass, with about 280 grit wet and dry sandpaper and a little kero finish.
There is no need to get perfect, just close to.
