Jupiter Starter Motor

Post by mrgeido »

Hi Just want to get an understanding of which Starter Motor to purchase before I jump in as prices vary significantly.

I've done some research and understand the correct starter is Lucas M35G1 25025A/D as originally fitted.

There are various high torque solutions now available and apart from being high torque the obvious point I have seen is they approach the flywheel from the opposite side, has anyone fitted these and have any experience of them, I've looked at the WOSP LMS295 which appears to be for a jowett, is it a simple bolt in replacement.

Secondly there are listed Lucas 25025 starters at £60 on various sites. The MG club indicates these are replacement for the original 25025A/D. Again does anyone have any feedback on if these would work. I know the Jowett is an anti-clockwise starter.

On a previous search of the forum its been said that add Jowett to starter motor and a search brings up units for circa £300, just wondered if this is an issue or actually the 25025 is the direct replacement for the 25025A/D and therefore there is a cost effective replacement.

thanks for any help

Tim

Firstly 'Jowett Car Spares' (the club run spares scheme for all Jowett models - run by the members for the members) will keep service exchange units in stock and at a competitive price - secondly the high torque starter motors can be fitted has a direct replacement but may require alignment of the flanged multiple location ring that bolts up to the bellhousing - this is to allow the starter to fit multiple makes / models of vehicle - why not give JCS a call this evening and they can advise you accordingly
