I was in school, glued to the coverage of Apollo 11 and learning to work on E1SA62 that my dad had just brought home, as 140 was already in a sorry state. Figuring out how that clutch worked had steam coming out of my ears!
I'm not sure there has been any recent human endeavor that so captured the world's attention. When Elon Musk shot a Tesla into orbit, did anyone really care?
This past week, there has been massive media coverage in the US with many stations replaying original footage, broadcasting retrospectives and historical documentaries. I have been glued to the TV set most evenings. One was an interview with Michael Collins, the man who stayed in the capsule. What an admirable man.
By the way, nice picture of two ground breaking vehicles!

I was sitting in school listening to the radio broadcast. Like the whole world, I was mesmerised by Apollo's achievement.
Jowett wise I was too young to know that the family Bradford was a Jowett.

Probably trying to get our new 1 year old son back to sleep, amid watching the landing on a black and white TV. I was also rebuilding a Javelin engine when possible after work, before transporting it 150 miles down from Kent to my second Javelin, patiently waiting for an engine transplant in my parents-in-law's B&B in Torquay!
On the way down, we were pulled over by the Police, who had been following us and were puzzled by what appeared to be a rotary lawnmower in the back of my wife's new Minivan. There had, apparently, been a spate of thefts of garden equipment. This was the Javelin engine, complete with the fan, which must have alerted the Police. They let us go, amid much laughter!

I was getting psyched up to marry Diana as I had just sold the registration number MKC 1 (DEFINITELY NOT THE CAR ITSELF) from my second Javelin for £200 and it paid the deposit on our first house.
I already had PG 7956 in store as a retirement project - forward planning see!
Oh! And I nearly forgot: -
Diana and I attended the National Jowett Rally in Harrogate. I still have the (rather sun faded) rally plaque on my trophy board.

My new bride and I were on the road, having been married at Manchester Cathedral the day before. We spent our first married night at Ingleton then in the morning we set off for Northern Scotland. We were travelling in my Morris Cooper 970S, the rarest of the Minis and one which I now regret not keeping. Hindsight, eh ? Still got the girl, though !
