Seat base for Long / Short Two wanted

Post by BarryCambs »

One of the very many things that made for a fantastic weekend away in Grantham was the chance to have a look at Diccon's identical Long two and also have the assembled experts give mine the once over. It transpires we have 1930's front axle which accounts for the slightly odd stance and lack of clearance on the mudguards. The front end is about 4 inches lower than it should be. I remembered James Baxter advertising an axle a year ago and a colleague is bringing it back south for me next week, so one problem is solved.

The other main issue is the seat. I've always assumed the upholstered plank wasn't quite what left the factory and sure enough, the other car has a proper sprung bench seat in it which is actually very comfortable. I know this is a long shot, but if I could find an original seat base, in any condition, even if it is only good for a pattern, I'd be a very happy man. I took the dimensions of the seat from the other car, so I can fabricate something if needs be but obviously an original would be preferable.
