Greg - The heater matrix is probably original - problem with a used one is that will be has old as your original one and could probably also start to leak at some stage - Clayton Classics do a replacement heater matrix core for it or can fully rebuild your existing heater - web link below

I've copied this from the Javelin section. Maybe you didn't see it, or dismissed the thought.
'I've heard that 'K-seal' works on leaky radiators, so perhaps it might also work in the heater matrix, unless of course there's a joint that needs soldering'.
If it does work, you'll save a shed-load of money, so it may be worth a try.
