We ran our car, a 1929 long 4, for 2 mins to warm it up, then the engine just died. On turning over, there is no 'click' noise that I've always had as a spark. I have taken off the coil terminals and tested for resistance as this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIx4dxew_UU
The resistances I get are 500 ohms on the primary coil and 7000 ohms between the primary and secondary. There is a small amount of oil on the leads too. Does this mean the coil has gone? Can anyone with a similar engine measure their coil?
Finally if it has 'gone' will this fit - https://www.theaustinsevenworkshop.com/ ... 6volt-coil ?
Thanks
Chris

Take the spark plug out connect to HT lead and ground on engine block. Turn engine over and see if there is a spark.
Do on both cylinders to prove not HT lead or plug.
Check LT side with volt meter and see the points opening with the voltage change.
There should be a good spark at the points as well.
Change capacitor with a new one.
See if HT lead out of coil gives spark.
Change rotor arm or buy new coil.

Hi Keith,
I should have said, I did try all that spark thing to start with and got nothing. There is 6v at the coil. There is nothing after that.

Hi Chris.
On one of the annual rally scenic runs, some time ago, John Box's 'White Lady (pre-war) did just that.
I suggested that there was a break in the wire from the CB side of the coil to the little brass nut on the side of the distributor.
And so it came to pass, and he was on his way again.
Just a thought.
Tony.

Tony, I had exactly that happen in the Weasel going up Countisbury Hill on the Bideford Rally. Miles of vibration had broken the wire which is actually quite thin yet so important!
