The on line booking system should now be in place. I have not had a lot of time to test this system and as many changes had to be made to accommodate this hotel, there may be a few issues. Please contact me if you find any.
The system picks up all the necessary details from the membership list so all you have to do is tick a few boxes (well almost). :D
Note that you only need to have your email address that you are using in the JCC membership list . You do not have to remember any usernames or passwords.
For non JCC UK members I could add a facility for you. Please contact me if you want this.

The system creates a record of your provisional booking which you can update without sending it off to the Rally Treasurer. It calculates what it thinks you have to pay, but you do need to make sure you have included the requisite number of administration fees. If you are happy with your input then you tick a box and then the systems sends an email to the Rally Treasurer who will eagerly await your payment into the Rally account by BACS (or SEPA) or you can contact him rallytreasurer@jowett.org if you want to Pay using PayPal.
The system also sends you a confirmation email with your booking details.
The Rally Treasurer will check your booking and contact you if there is an issue or if the payment is not received.

Note the session to complete the form is only half an hour so if you cannot complete in time please submit without sending the emails. Your provisional booking will then be saved by the system so that you can come back to it. The onerous part of the form maybe your car details or, if you are a large party, all the attendants' details.

Dianne will be handling the cheques so please send them to her and not Keith. Dianne will record their receipt and pay them into the bank. This applies both to the deposit and balance (should you need to split your payment). Why not save yourself and the rally administration the extra work and pay the whole amount in one go.

If you require a receipt, please supply your email address or a stamped addressed envelope.

By booking online and paying by BACS or PayPal you will get rapid confirmation by email of receipt of payment .

As the headline says you better get your booking in quick otherwise you are going to be disappointed. Beat snail mail by using the on-line system.

I thought that I'd be able to do Clayton-le-Moors to Grantham in one fell swoop in my 1933 'Flying Fox' on Friday 24th May. As it's about 125 miles from me on A roads rather than motorways, and added to the fact that I expect to average about 25 miles per hour without stops, it's going to be rather a long day. I'll be going via Todmorden and Huddersfield, then the A629 to Sheffield, A57 to Worksop and the A1 to Toll bar Road.
Being of rather advanced years, and on a pre-war motor, I've decided once again not to do the whole journey in one day. This being so, I've just booked for the Thursday night (23rd May) at the Travelodge at Worksop on the A57 (S80 3QD), mainly because a pre-paid double room was £21 when I booked tonight.
Pre-war Yorkshire drivers take note.
Tony.

Jowett owned now or pa... : No - Father once owned Javelin
Comments : Been a Javelin enthusiast for years but never made it to ownership - all I have is a workshop manual! My dad'scar was FF 7396, I spoke to Noel Stokoe about it years ago but there is no trace so presumed scrapped. I was thinking of driving to Grantham to have a look at the cars if that is O.K - to renew my desire to own one!

Gravitate to Grantham for the Great North Road Rally
WHEN? 24th/25th/26th May 2019
WHERE? The Olde Barn Hotel,
Toll Bar Rd, Marston, Lincolnshire, NG32 2HT

Getting there: Toll Bar Rd connects the A1 to Marston. Approaching from the north entails a simple left
turn into it off the A1 at an Esso filling station. Coming from the south, however, there is provision for a
right turn through the centre reservation to cross on-coming continuous high-speed traffic. Not a good
idea and the reason for suggesting heading north until able to cross by bridge and return.
Even better is to avoid the A1 altogether; take time to study your road atlases and plan ahead. If approaching
on the A52 (from Nottingham) or the A607 (Melton Mowbray), simply make for Grantham and
then head north on the A607 Sleaford road, past Belton (NT) to turn off LEFT in Barkstone to Marston.
Approaching from the Lincoln or Sleaford direction (A607/A153) towards Grantham, turn RIGHT in
Barkestone for Marston. From Barkestone simply follow the road until you reach a Give-Way. Turn left, at
next Give-Way turn right and you are on Toll Bar Rd. Hotel will appear on your left.
From the north and north-west, aim to cross the Trent in Newark and leave on the B6326, south. Cross
over the A1 and turn LEFT for Claypole. In the centre of that village turn RIGHT for Dry Doddington. At
Give-Way turn LEFT to follow signs for Marston; pass through Marston, leaving it on Toll Bar Rd. The
hotel will appear on your RIGHT. Be aware that from Claypole the roads are quiet but narrow and uneven.
Further route advice on request from John Cash.
On arrival we suggest that you unload at the entrance before parking up. We have a Jowett-only area of
safe, lit, hard-standing parking behind the hotel not visible from the road. Rally organisers will be on hand

Please fill in the Vehicle & Personal Entry form and return it to
Paul Beaumont by 14th April. Also anyone wanting to come who
is not resident at the hotel needs to contact Dianne Davies secretary@jowett.org to order a rally pack. Don't forget those
raffle tickets; the revenue from sales is needed!

Getting there: If coming from the south, don't let your satnav fool you into making a (perfectly legal)
right turn through the centre reservation of the A1 (see Paul's Preamble). Route advice is available on
request from John Cash.

Scenic Runs on Saturday; a variety of suggestions, with route notes available on the day. They range
from local pottering to cross-country cruising; posing in the car park of a local attraction or a blast
along Ermine Street.

Concours Day, Sunday 26th May, at Woodland Waters, Ancaster, NG32 3RT
Members in period dress always complements the rally day and we would like as many members to
participate as possible. It’s readily achievable; for men: a pair of overalls and a flat cap or pull out your
cravats from the 70’s, tweed jackets etc. Find a trilby or fedora on any internet retail sites such as E
Bay.

Ladies can go casual with overalls or jeans for that 40-50s look - pop into your local charity shop too,
great for jewellery, scarves & gloves; some antique centres have a few dealers in clothing suits/furs/
hats or google search vintage fairs near to you.

For ideas on period style try freddiesofpinewood.co.uk or thehouseoffoxy.com - a wide choice of style
and eras from 1920s to the 60s. Look in supermarkets & New Look for affordable new versions of
vintage style ….. but most of all have fun! - Sharon Spencer-McCormack & Pam Cash

The Rally Organisers wish everyone a safe journey and look forward to your company. - John Cash

Thank you to all who have booked to date. A few rooms are
still available but will not be held for us after the end of this
month. Remember that you can also book on-line at jowett.net. Click the 'Services' tab and then the
'2019 Grantham rally' link.

Note the Hotel is no longer a part of the Ramada chain. It remains in its original family ownership and
our booking is unaffected. We look forward to meeting up with old friends, putting faces to names and,
hopefully, welcoming members new and old who have yet to try one of these gatherings (you don't
know what you're missing!).

Attached to this magazine ( or using the on-line Grantham Booking service) is your Vehicle & Personal Entry Form, which MUST, for insurance purposes, be completed and returned as instructed. The Concours & static display is on Sunday this
year, at Woodland Waters, Ancaster, NG32 3RT. Our vehicles will be on display to a large number of
visitors (see below) but will be adjacent to extensive under-cover facilities reserved for our use only. If
you are not able to book for the whole weekend but would like to bring your Jowett to join us on
Sunday, we would love to see you - but completing the form is still mandatory!

Woodland Waters is a very popular venue and our cars will be of great interest to visitors. We know
that Jowetteers are very good at putting on a good display, but your organisers would very much like
more people to join in the fun of dressing in a manner appropriate to the period of your Jowett. The
usual suspects will be more than happy to offer tips and advice. Charity shops are a good source of
period dress (and you are donating to good causes!) for all ages. And for men who don't like dressing
up, all you have to do is wear your open-neck shirt with the collar folded over the outside of your
sports-jacket collar and hey presto! You're a typical '30s, '40's, '50s holidaymaker! - JC

Thank you to all who have booked so far. Remember that you can also
book on-line at jowett.net. Click the 'Services' tab and then the '2019
Grantham rally' link.
Parking facilities at the Olde Barn are excellent and a dedicated area for Jowetts is guaranteed! There
is also plenty of easily accessible space for trailers. Both areas are hidden from the road and the hotel
site is surrounded by fields.
Although the A1 is the apparently obvious road from which to access the hotel, it is not the only one. If
you wish to avoid it (and we strongly advise that you do!) your editor has a number of alternatives on
offer and would be delighted to give you full details. Contact details as on page 3.
There is a great variety of attractions, with something to interest everyone, within easy reach of our
base. Even retail therapy five minutes away! And for those wishing to make a pilgrimage, the spiritual
home of the Jupiter is a pleasant, 20-mile drive cross country to Bourne.
Finally, this month sees the distribution of raffle tickets. As always, the sale of these is an essential
element in funding the rally and your generosity is very much appreciated.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any raffle tickets sent in error and discard any sent to Jowett Juniors or
those who do not participate in raffles.

The variety of attractions within easy reach of our base is considerable,
with something to interest everyone. This month we focus on just one subject.
Grantham lies at the southern end of an escarpment edge which extends northwards to the
Humber. The prevailing westerly winds made the gentle back-slope, eastwards from the edge
towards the fenlands and coast, ideal for the safe landing of aircraft and for assisting take-off. The
RNAS (Royal Naval Air Service), first set up landing fields along the edge in 1914 and were soon
followed by the RFC (Royal Flying Corps). Their successor, the RAF, maintains operational airfields
to this day; former airfields, museums and memorials bear witness to the bravery of men
and women who served here in turbulent times.
Close to our hotel is the Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum. Nearby Cranwell (still operational)
was established in 1914 by the Royal Navy as a RNAS airship training station. The subsequent
RAF College was the first Military Air Academy in the world. This small but fascinating museum is
well worth a visit. In addition to the permanent displays (many interactive) there will be, during our
stay, an exhibition devoted to pioneering female flyers.
Other sites and memorials, some with visitor facilities, abound around the area. Most are accessible
via quiet country lanes, ideally suited to exploration by Jowetts of all ages. Full details
and route information will be available from the rally organisers.

The unspoilt countryside around this location is awaiting your exploration and is home to a great
variety of attractions, including nearby Belton House (NT), Belvoir Castle, Grimsthorpe Castle,
Easton Hall Gardens, road, rail and aircraft museums, attractive historic towns and villages - all
ready for invasion by Jowett!
