Bradford Step position

Post by Keith Andrews »

I have a old set of steps for the Bradford, thu mine doesnt have the brackets on the chassis to bolt them on with...

Where/what do these steps line up with...
It looks as if the front edge would line up with the front edge of the door, and height level with the rear of the mud gaurd????
Few observations:
In case others are replacing the step part
Althu the orginal step metal looks symetical it isnt, the outter edge is slightly wider than the rear...
The support brackets left and right side are different..... They can be swaped fron either side, but each side set have the angle iron facing towards each other

Hi Keith, a quick measure on my utility positions the front edge of the step approx 6" (150mm) to the rear of the front edge of the door. The front of the step seems to be about 3" (75mm) below the door and the rear end about 2.5" (65mm) below the door. Maybe they should be parallel to the bottom of the doors - my doors drop a touch. They do not seem to really relate to the front wing.
Any Help?

Thanks Paul.
Have put the drivers step on....
With the step set back 6" from the front edge of the door, it seems to be just a little to far back to step in easy....
With the step front in lune with the front door edge , althu a little too far forward to put ones foot on the center, one can still have all of ones foot on the step when entering...and lined up with the door it 'looks' right.

I do have bench seat, that may make a difference to ease of access, and it is a van body

The 3" down from the door edge also lines up with the front mud gaurd and is a good height....
The bottom of my doors run parrall with the ground, as does the whole bottom edge of the panels between the front and rear gaurds....so both the front and rear edges of the gaurd are 3" +/- a couple mm

The outter edge of the step is very close to a line between the outside edges of the front gaurd and rear gaurd

Sorry keith, when I spoke about the correlation with the front mud guard I had not thought about the situation relative to the side of the vehicle. I will check this later today.
Do you want a photo at all or are you happy with the solution?

Im happy...it may not be strickly right....
But it 'looks' right...fits with the lines of the vechile, as best a Bradford step can...
And it is a position that works...

Thu in the future xomeone may wish to refer to correct postion.

Thanks
