Rear reflectors.

My 1950 Jav has two rear reflectors that certainly look like retro-fit; they are Lucas FV159902's., grey rubber profiled moulding with red circular lens.
These made me realise that the original spec didn't have separate reflectors, does anyone know, was this a later legal requirement?

compulsory reflectors introduced in road transport lighting oct 1953 which came into opperation Oct 54 so the Javelin just missed it!

There must obviously have been some considerable sales of reflectors when the legislation came in.
