Wheels, engine

Post by Davidppp »

Hello all.

I am looking for any of the nwly made wheels which might be surplus to requirements..failing that I can weld and reinforce standard wheels.

Also an engine..ideally a good runner, but failing that anything really. Again, welding is not a showstopper..

Kind regards

Hi David,

Just a word along the way. If you are thinking of making up an engine, especially after welding, have a word with John Airey about pressure testing the block with compressed air before re-building. Here in Severnside, we have been finding that the failure rate on blocks is very high. About one in eight pass!

Early ( PA or early PB ) blocks are best. Mid-range blocks ( PC to early PE ) almost invariably fail, as they seem to corrode internally really badly. Really late PE ones seem to be a reasonable bet, especially where the rear water take-off has a strengthening long head bolt through it. Watch out for cracks inside the push rod chests. Early blocks need lots of modifications to bring them up to later standards, but John could advise you on what needs to be achieved.

All the best,

David
