7HP chassis plate

Post by DougGillanders »

Does anyone have a photograph of the chassis plate on the dash board of a 7/17 built around 1926 -29? It would be useful if the size of the plate could be quoted too.

Hi Doug

This is what it looks like on our 1929 Long Two. Dimensions are 64mm x 73mm

Hope that helps

Hi Doug,
Sometime ago, Ian Priestley had a few new ones made without a number stamped on them. Perhaps Jowett Car Spares still has one.

Since you know it is a 1927 car, does that mean the engine is original and the number is on that?

The number should start with a '7'.

There may also be one or two initials stamped into the crank case near the oil filler cap.

These are the initials of the man who 'set up' your engine before it left the production 'line'.

Tony may have more to say on this aspect . . .
The devil is in the detail!
