improving cooling
I have been thinking about the effect of the front exhaust pipe emitting heat onto engine and whether anyone had tried fitting exhaust wrap . Any thoughts or experiences good /bad ?

Re: improving cooling
There is really not much point as, unlike a normal exhaust arrangement, the exhaust is in the full flow of air. I also think that any wrapping causes premature deterioration of the pipe. However, there could be an argument that the hot exhaust radiates heat into the block and timing cover. My Subaru had a complex arrangement of stuffed baffles around all the exhaust pipes most of the way to the back of the car. Another argument might say the extra hot exhaust going through the nearside manifold on a Javelin would increase the likelihood of No 1 cylinder failing which is the greatest imbalance on the Jowett engine.

Thanks , the negatives outweigh the benefits so "leave well alone".

You can have exhausts coated to reduce heat radiation/convection. A fairly expensive process but better than wrapping in this application. A polished stainless pipe will radiate and convect less heat.
