Post by 114 »

What is the best source of reference for setting up / adjusting the Jupiter gear linkage please?
Many thanks.

The maintenance manual under 'Steering column gear change' page 52. Note also adjustment of Gearbox plunger setting in the preceeding paragraph.
Set up is virtually the same as the Javelin, the only difference being the bottom fittings on the column. LHD versions require a little more thinking about. Some rebuilt boxes may not have a hole in the gearbox shaft to take the 5/32 locating pin used in adjustment procedure. So you have to get someone to hold gearshift at 10 o clock. Also look at Tech notes. https://jowett.net/Parts/TechNotes-Part ... erhaul.htm

The linkage is adjusted by loosening lock nuts and rotating shaft in desired direction (anticlockwise will lengthen). Make sure at least 4 threads are there to hold fitting by having each screwed on by the same amount. Also make sure clips are down or shoulder screw with split pin (depending on fitting) holds the fitting on tightly without bind.

Are the Gear Change rods ( the ones from the bottom the column to the Gearbox ) of the fully adjustable type. Earlier cars required you to take off one end and rotate one thread. The later rods allow very fine adjustment as they have a long central nut with one end tapped RH thread and the other end tapped LH thread. Both with locknuts. Makes setting up much easier.
