Re: Positive earth coil
Hi Nigel, on the Coil the live side is indicated SW, the other terminal CB goes to the distributor. Hope the work
is going well.
Alf
is going well.

Re: Positive earth coil
Why not do a search for 'polarity of coil' on JowettTalk?
Anyhow much discussed try this.
There may be no marking or it says + and - or you may have switched polarity of battery or the coil SW marking refers to a negative earth vehicle.
The coil has two windings. The high tension coil feeds the lead that goes to the distributor cap and the low tension coil that is fed by the battery through the ignition switch. The circuit of both coils is completed by the common lead that goes to the chassis (where it returns to the battery) via the contact breaker (or electronic switch).
To find out which is the common for both coils you need to measure the resistance between the three outputs. There will be a high resistance between the High Tension output and both the Low Tension terminals but there will be a few more ohms resistance to one of the LT terminals. That terminal is NOT the common terminal.
Ignore any markings on the coil and do the spark test to get your electrons flowing in the correct direction.
