This was retrofitted to many engines after being designed by a garage mechanic from Sussex (whom I met) and submitted to Jowetts.
Try doing http://jowett.org/search.htm for 'camshaft endfloat' on jowett.net . The adjustment is in the second listing Tech notes part 25 . There are also other listings later on that will be of interest, Part 3.

Thanks just had a look ,some very interesting points ,
1 I still have a plunger and spring in the camshaft not a peg
2 it states also the crank gear is reversible and may have alignment marks both sides and will alter valve timing
So do I get a peg or do I fit an unmodified timing cover which I have
I wll now remove the crank sprocket and check as I feel poss valve timing out
have just purchased a javilin and will need all the help i can get

I would leave the end float system as it is, unless you know it is wrong and there was a lot of knocking on the timing cover. Sort the valve timing out first. Note that valve timing might be different if a non standard cam has been fitted. \But since yours is wrong anyway put it back to standard. Advice --once adjusted check at least a couple of times!
