NEC RESTORATION SHOW 2015

Post by Chris Spencer »

Posted both here and in the UK rally & events section:

After a very successful stand display at the 2014 show we have been invited to next years show which is at the NEC in Birmingham over the weekend of 28th & 29th March 2015.

This is a very different show from your normal classic & vintage rally or exhibition - it allows the club not only to display the model range of the cars but to also physically & actively demonstrate how we support our members in restoring, maintaining and keeping our Jowetts on the road. In turn this also demonstrates the core values of the club in enthusiasm, commitment & teamwork along with our friendship & family values.

This does not go unnoticed by the general public / classic car owner and whilst some show attendees are already owners / club members of other marque - some are also seeking a new challenge / something different and this is our target market.

The event also places the club under the spotlight of the vintage & classic car press which in turn has generated some excellent publicity and continues to do so - this in turn results in a higher profile for the club - the higher our profile then the larger opportunity is presented for recruiting new members to the club.

We need your help in order to staff the 2015 stand - willing volunteers welcome - we also need the following cars (ideally Midlands based / located)

Jupiter - roadworthy presentable car that has undergone a owner / home restoration (you don't have to have done all the work yourself - just has much as your capabilities allowed)

Pre war - Ideally a barn find / something that you are just starting to restore or a vehicle in mid restoration

Neither vehicle needs to be worked upon during the show

Please either PM or call me - 01189 812640 / 07967 461050

Many thanks - Chris
27 Long 4 Tourer Oily Rag
37 Jowett 8 HP - In many parts
52 Javelin Std 'Taxi Livery'
52 Javelin Std Patina project
52 Javelin Std Sports project
52 Jupiter SA - Original car - full restoration project
54 Jupiter SA - project - shortly for sale

For those wishing to get a discount on admission please look at next month's Jowetteer for discount code or look at this in the Gallery. THIS LINK NO LONGER WORKS!

We have a Bradford in the Barn Find section as well as an impressive club stand between the two halls. So come along and be inspired to do a bit of restoration or at least see how it is done.

So - a couple of days to go and there is a hive of activity from our members behind the scenes bringing together several months of planning - Keith is busy readying Peter Pfisters bodyshell plus parts, tools & equipment ready for collection, Craig has been very active in arranging the logistics of the display equipment and organising the stand 'Front of House' team along with preparing his lovely Jupiter which shall be on the stand, Jack is very busy attempting to juggle all the display media / posters, along with some of the logistics required for the show whilst holding down a very busy day job and whilst living in half of a house (just ask Jack), meanwhile David Mason has quitely gone about raising enough money to fund / sponsor the stands costs, Paul Beaumont has been incredibly busy assembling a kit of parts 'Bradford Van' for the barn find stand display along with sorting JCS display items for the stand - Paul is another member that has to juggle a committed day job along with his JCC activities + JCS activities, Amy is busy spreading the word via Twitter & Facebook, Sharon has organised some fantastic JCC branded outfits for the stand volunteers, meanwhile I have organised & submitted the stand documentation, built the required the health & safety file, done loads of running around, phone calls, e mails etc and tomorrow have to collect the Javelin bodyshell from Keith's and tow that back to home then load the rest of the kit required to the truck & trailer. Friday will see the core team travel from the various corners of the country to converge at the NEC in Birmingham and build the stand ready for the show. There are other members helping where they can and we are privileged to be strongly supported by our families, friends & fellow members in what is a huge undertaking for the club. Moral to all that I have written above is that we have all worked has a TEAM to achieve it.

Please support the club / stand in coming and paying a visit if you possibly can.

This page on the show website gives a good idea of what our stand will show.
Formed in 1923, the Jowett Car Club proudly holds the title of ‘The worlds oldest one make car club’. Offering support for all Jowett models, the club provides for its members through a comprehensive range of activities and services.

This year their stand will exhibit a Jowett Short 2 tourer of mid 1920’s vintage which will be receiving some cosmetic attention at the show alongside a Jowett Javelin bare metal restoration which will see the final panel fitting and beating as well as lead loading undertaken. This Jowett Javelin project of Practical Classics team members Neil Campbell and Sam Glover will also be the recipient of a full brake rebuild by club members at the show having been recently unearthed after a 50 year layup by its previous owner.

You'll also be able to catch a glimpse of a fully restored Jowett Jupiter - this particular model is a multiple concours winning car and is very capable of both turning heads and winning awards despite being restored by a club member some 25 years ago!

Other activities on the stand include the reupholstering of a Javelin bench seat and the restoration of various Jowett mechanical sub assemblies. The Jowett Car Club guarantee a warm welcome from a friendly team and are looking forward your visit.

See this incredible display of classics on the Jowett Car Club stand, 4-530. Book tickets today here.

See you there.

All being well, Julian (of pre-war restoration fame on this forum), Bernard (from Chorley and coming back tomorrow from Goa), and myself (from the dominant Rose County, but a bit boring at the moment) will be coming down together on Saturday.
Looking forward to seeing friends again.
Tony.

Very long day - home to Guildford to collect the trailer then slow progress around the M25 to Keith's at Kings Langley - a few bits on the bodyshell of Peter's Javelin to sort / complete prior to loading on the trailer - I checked the kit out that I was taking from Keith's - In doing so I tested my very expensive electrical orbital sander (£400 + expensive) it's only seen light use of about 15 hours since purchase 18 months ago - press the start button and it went pop / flash / dead - fortunately it carries a two year warranty and the supplying dealer is just up the road from Keith's - bad news is he has to return it to Mirka the manufactures - I explained that I needed it for the restoration show over the weekend - not a problem says the dealer I own the same machine personally - you can loan mine for the weekend - what a star :D . Keith continued sorting odds out - he has gathered all the parts together and refurbished anything that is unobtainable for the Practical Classics Javelin which will be on the stand for a full brake rebuild. Keith will be travelling up with Jack - I will travel from home towing the trailer with Peter's car + all the equipment / tools - so with Peter's car loaded it was time for me to head back home - I still had to load my own & Sharon's tools & equipment once home - it was well after 21.00 hours before I got into the house. So early start up to the big shed on the outskirts of Birmingham tomorrow - a few pictures to finish with :

Jane and I attended the Restoration Show yesterday and had a fantastic day! The Jowett stand was excellent with Peter's 1950 Javelin bare-metal restoration being worked on by Chris Spencer. The Practical Classics Javelin restoration project was also on the stand and had Keith and Amy Clements working on the brakes all day. There was also the Short-Two of Richard Gane and had Peter polishing the brass-work for several hours. The other car on the stand was the lovely red Jupiter of Craig Ainge, which clearly, did not need any work doing to it!
Sharon McCormack was also busy with a heavy-duty sewing machine restoring a Javelin front seat, this was fascinating to watch, and indeed every aspect of work in progress on the stand created a great deal of interest with the general public both young & old. Just round the corner from the Jowett stand was the "barn finds" section which had a great selection of unrestored cars including a very sorry-looking Bradford of Paul Beaumont's, which to say the least, will need a bit of work!
We spent a lot of time on the stand during the day and it was great to see so many club members supporting the event.

Pictures to follow when I work out how to put them on!
