Camber and Castor

Post by Keith Clements »

I was asked a couple of months ago by a garage servicing a Javelin about suspension set up. So I sent them what I had. Frost are currently doing a promo on a Camber/Castor gauge so I thought I would research. I found this article and this article which explains well the need for checking, although it is specialised for oval/circle track racing. The article shows how the geometry is affected and the principle of keeping the contact patch of the tyre in the right place at all times.
A lot of Jowetts have suffered front wheel damage over the years such that suspension mounting points may have been affected. Thus correcting any misalignment will make the car handle a lot better. The tyres will not squeal, the steering will be light, the car will not change direction when going over a bump etc.....
