JOWETT RALLY - MACCLESFIELD 22-25 MAY 2015
I hope the North West Section of the Jowett Club doesn't mind, but here's the initial post for the 2015 International Rally of the Jowett Car Club, which will be organised mainly by its NW members, with help from the Executive Committee once again.
In the past, most of the posts about the Jowett Annual Rallies have included 'Jowett' in the main heading. This year (2014) the heading was 'International Rally'....
This resulted in 529 views of the topic.
With 'JOWETT' in the heading, we have experienced the following 'views' about the various Rallies:-
2006 .. 4814
2007 .. 2370
2008 .. 10019
2009 .. 2856
2010 .. 3552
2011 .. 1166
2012 .. 1084
2013 .. 2295
Perhaps, even though it will appear in 'JowettTalk', we should once again include 'JOWETT' in the heading of the post to help promote next year's Rally to the world.

Seems like a glimpse of the obvious!
Whatever happened in 2008!? (Or is that just a typo!).

The main reason the Scottish Rally topic had so many views is because the organisers used JowettTalk as a communication medium to reach our international audience.

Jowett Car Club Ltd
International Rally 22nd–25th May 2015
In 2015 the the North-West section of the Jowett Car Club invites
you to join them at Shrigley Hall Hotel in Pott Shrigley, about 6 miles
from Macclesfield, where the rally will be based for the weekend, and
at Lyme Park on Saturday 23rd May where we will have the static display and Concours.
Macclesfield is an ancient market town nestling on the edge of the Peak District and was once the
world’s biggest producer of finished silk with 71 silk mills operating in 1832 and was the original home
of Hovis Breadmakers.
The name Shrigley came from the original owners, the De Shrigleys, and was passed down by
marriage to the Downes family in the 14th century. The Downes family lived on the estate for over 300
years, with the Shrigley Hall that existed in their time being sold to William Turner in 1818.
William Turner was the first MP for Blackburn and was involved in cotton manufacture. He later
became High Sheriff of Cheshire and built the present hall in 1825.
The hall was sold to the Salesians order in 1929 who converted it into a missionary college, they
ran the college until 1986 when they moved to Savio House in Bollington village.
Work commenced in 1986 to create what Shrigley Hall is today and in 1989 it opened as a hotel.
Shrigley Hall Hotel.
Lyme Park.
Lyme Park, situated near the village of Disley, was the principal seat of the ancient family of Leghs,
whose ancestor fought bravely in the battle of Cressy. Once a hunting lodge, the building dates back
to Elizabethan times, and in its heyday was a great sporting estate. The 1,300 acre estate with its
medieval herd of red and fallow deer offers fantastic walks and stunning views. Its classical façade
was designed in the 1720s by the famed Venetian architect, Giacomo Leoni.
Lyme Park was used as the exterior of Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice 1995. The lake was made
famous by Colin Firth’s dip and was once the source of a cascade, or a staircase with water running
down it, from 1703-1818.
Rally Package Rates – Double occupancy Dinner, Bed & Breakfast £67 pppn.
Single occupancy supplement £20 pppn.
Extra Nights – Thursday 21st and Monday 25th, Double occupancy, Bed &
Breakfast £45 pppn.
Rally Administration fee £10 per adult.
We intend to have an Auction, hopefully of Jowett related items, of not more than 50 lots.
All donations for above to Tim Brown please 01260 273078/07973 853905.
Jowett Car Club Ltd
International Rally 2015
The booking form for next year’s rally is attached to October Jowetteer (hopefully soon available here as well!) so please complete and return it as soon as you can. Bookings must close on 31st January at the very latest so don’t delay too long! Payment can be made with 2 post-dated cheques, one dated before the end of January 2015 and the second one dated before 31st March 2015. Cheques will not be presented before these dates.
Booking forms CANNOT be accepted without the 2 cheques (arrangements have been made with Tom Chapman for overseas members to pay by credit card). Payment can also be made by bank transfer by contacting Kate Jelen (katejelen'at'hotmail.com).
Cancellations will be accepted with no penalty up to 31st March. After that a full refund may be made but cannot be guaranteed. After 15th May no refund can be made unless the room is used by someone on a waiting list.
Competitive prices have been negotiated for the rally weekend and any nights before or immediately after. The price per night is £134 for two people sharing, or £87 for single occupancy including bed, breakfast and evening meal, provided a minimum of three consecutive nights are booked. If a shorter than three-night stay is required please contact David Mason as a supplement may be payable.
If staying for the rally weekend, bed and breakfast only is available for days before and after at £90 for two or £70 for single occupancy. There are plenty of family rooms and competitive prices have been negotiated for children.
The hotel can provide packed lunches at £10 each for Saturday and Sunday. Café facilities are also available at the field day site.
All the above prices are the precise charges levied by the hotel and have not been ‘weighted’ by your Rally Committee to cover costs. Because of this, we must make a compulsory administrative charge of £10 to each adult. If you wish to enter the Rally without staying at Shrigley Hall hotel but wish to display your car at Lyme Park, take part in the scenic run, and obtain a rally pack, there will be a £10 charge for this per entrant.
Next Month’s Jowetteer will include the vehicle and personal entry form.
There is an opportunity for advertising in our programme. The programme will be A5 and the rates are £50 for a full page, £25 for a half page, £100 for outside rear cover and £75 for inside front cover.
More information next month, in the meantime if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact David Mason (preferably on email davidalanmason'at'gmail.com or on 01625 427882)

I've sent off my registration document and a couple of cheques to David, and am looking forward to the Shrigley Hall do to meet up again with the many friends I've made over the years.
It gives you something to aim for through the dreary winter days.
Is there anyone else going??

This heading has slipped down the pecking order, so I thought I'd bring it into the limelight again especially as the first cheque instalment will have been cashed by now.
How are we doing?
Is the hotel room quota fulfilled?

Well, the second instalment will have been cashed on the 31st March, 17 days ago, so how's about an update?Tony wrote: Monday February 9th. I'm arriving on the Thursday, and stopping on Monday night as are several others, so I hope we'll all meet up as we did at Redworth Hall last year, when 'Mary Ellen' my 1934 Short saloon was my choice of chariot. I hope to bring 'Sarah Jane', my 1933 Flying Fox once again this year.
I have two options for travel - South through Manchester centre, or somehow around it. I haven't decided which one to choose, but hopefully I'll be in the hotel bar in the late afternoon of Thursday the 21st. May.
This year will be a 'doddle' I hope. I reckon it will be about 60 miles from BB5 5QQ. Crieff in Scotland was over 700 miles round trip for the weekend, on 'Sarah Jane''. Bideford in Devon was much of the same, on her as well, and Llandrindod Wells wasn't just as far for her to go, but I had to trailer her to Basingstoke, as Mrs F wanted to come as well, which pleased me no end.
In the past, forum members have commented on their commitment to come to the annual Rally, but as of today, there's not been much interest in this thread.
So, it only takes a "Yes I'm coming" .... so that we'll see which of the forum members will be at Shrigley Hall.
It's not long off now!
Regards,
Tony.

Due several quite restrictive factors it was a late booking for us and we will have to make it fit in to the crazy schedules that we both currently have - By the time of the rally Sharon will have just completed on a major film production but will be in the throws of immediately commencing another, Meanwhile I shall be in the middle of a new business launch it also just happens that our new kitchen will be delivered the week of the rally and I am still miles away with the preparation works for it - so I had better crack on - see you all there no doubt.

Pics of all the cars on the field TOPIC here.

Also pics of TOPIC period dress , Lyme Park and Anson Engine Museum here.

The Southern Section TOPIC Special Tools table
There are also a couple of short videos of the 1913 being driven, the steam and diesel engines at the Anson Museum. The latter being the one that had a solar panel to charge a battery to drive the starter motor for an ancient oil compressor to supply air to a 4 cylinder compressed air starter motor for the massive Peter Brotherhood Diesel that ticked over at less than 100rpm.

Here, here from the Cornish contingent! Though I wish more members went on the scenic run - we didn't see another Jowett on the whole 60 mile route! Were we the only ones?
A very enjoyable do, with good company, a comfortable hotel and in superb scenery: role on Tewkesbury!
